DIY EGG, HONEY & OLIVE OIL HAIR MASK

I luv DIY recipes!!!  Its fun, inexpensive and effective.  You can try these at home on a lazy day when u dun feel like visiting a salon but still wan some pampering on yourself.  I did not invent these wonderful recipes.... I chanced upon, tested and like it.  Enjoy!!!

EGG, HONEY & OLIVE OIL HAIR MASK
This treatment is extremely good for treating dry, dull and damaged hair.  It leaves your hair soft and shiny and definitely more manageable.

  • raw egg yolk (you will need more if your hair is very long)
  • olive oil ( about 3 teaspoons)
  • honey (about 3 teaspoons)
Mix all the above ingredients and massage well into your hair and scalp.  Then wrap your hair with a towel or use a shower cap and leave the mask on for about 20min.  Rinse off with warm water.

Note: Please do not throw away the egg white!!!  Use it on your face as a pore tightening mask.  Beat the egg white by hand and apply to your face and let it harden.  The egg white draws toxins from the skin's surface and tightens the pores as it cleans.  And dun waste time, apply the egg white once you've got your hair mask on.

  5. When you use it, afterwards can you wash it wish shampoo instead of just water?

  6. After I use it can I wash it with shampoo instead of just water? Please hurry and answer(:

  7. You already shampooed your hair. So there is no need to shampoo again. You do not wanna stripped off the treatment with the shampoo.

If you find it absolutely necessary I'll suggest using a very very small amount of shampoo.

    2. Oh, I thought we were supposed to do it on dry hair? I didn't see the instruction to wash first. I might use a little shampoo with mine...

    3. I use this as a pre treatment before I wash my hair. It works just as well. There are no rules for all natural beauty treatments!

    4. does it make your hair grow?

  8. Hi. How many times should I do this a week? Thank you!

    ReplyDelete
  9. You can do it as and when you like. But I feel once a week is really enough.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Could you do this before you shampoo your hair?
Like apply this to your hair and then shampoo it after?

    ReplyDelete
  11. Preferably not. You won't use conditioner before shampoo right? :)

    ReplyDelete
  12. does this help grow out your hair??

  13. Sadly No :( Check out my other DIYs... got quite a few on hair growth.

  14. so i haven't taken a shower in 3 days and my hair becomes very tangled/oily when i do not use shampoo to clean something out of it. do you know any treatments for tangled hair? and should i shampoo it out anyways? just very curious!

    1. Oh My... please shower & shampoo!! After shampoo and conditioner you can try using white vinegar to rinse.(Mix the vinegar with water)Sure effective for untangling and getting rid of build up hair products and oiliness.

      Delete
    2. Never wash your hair every day ;) Once every 3 days is best! Will feel greasy at first, but will look (and get) better in weeks :) Use washing cloth for the rest of your body or shower eithout getting your hair wet. Deep conditioning (once a week) with coconut products supposed to help as well :) For the untangling, brush every day and sleep with a braid. Overly combing your hair messes it up too so take it easy with the brush :)

    1. It won't thicken your hair. Do you mean you have lotsa hair but hair is fine or little hair?

      Delete
    2. Use castor oil to help with thickening your hair.

  16. I like my hair, it's semi-long and I'm trying to grow it out even longer. The only thing is...whenever I take a shower and then get out (I let my hair air-dry) it gets very, very frizzy/wavy (Not the good kind of wavy)So I end up straigtening my hair because I can't figure out how to get it to go down... Also, I use PaulMitchell's shampoo when I take a shower. Should I keep using it or change? And if I should change, what kind of reasonably priced shampoo/conditioner would you recommend?? Sorry for all the questions, I'm just curious and sorta confused about all of this. (Coming from a Teen who's just coming out of the tom-boy stage, trying to familiarize myself with the good and bad kinds of products, etc. etc.) Thanks! :)

    1. You can try using Schwarzkopf Moisture Kick Spray Conditioner (Blue in color) after you washed your hair. I really like it cos it makes my hair soft and manageable. You can use it when your hair is dry too. After that, use Schwarzkopf Osis Magic Anti-Frizz Shine Serum.

You can continue to use the shampoo as long as you feel comfortable. But I like to change every now and then cos I may come across an even better one :P

I think you should find a good hair stylist to rebond your hair. It saves you time and its easier to manage.

    2. Sally's has a purple shampoo, it works great for orange turned hair.

  36. I used this recently for the first time and it worked great! My hair came out softer and shinier. I left the mixture in my hair for 45mins then followed with my normal shampoo and leave in conditioner. Also had a lot of strands of hair come out, not to sure about that. :\ but I'm going to keep doing it with faith!

  41. So, i tried this today, first time ever, and it was AMAZING. like my hair finally looks HEALTHY, and HYDRATED, and this was just my first time... but quick question..
is it okay to do it like more than once a week? or is it one of those treatments where you should do every once in a while...? Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  42. I used this after shampoo and conditioner, and rinsed it out. My hair came out too oily. Should I use less olive oil? Like 1 or 2 tap olive oil?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. You can try to add a little less. Won't hurt to have 1 day of good olive oily hair though :p Wash your hair with shampoo and conditioner the next day and all will be good.

  43. will this treatment make may hair smell like egg?

    ReplyDelete
  44. how often can you do the hair mask .. i have very damaged hair and i need to deep condition it once a week .. can i do both or just one or the other?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Do both but spread them apart, my hair is pretty damaged and after a month of alternating them I'm able to brush through my hair without pulling. This treatment alone is amazing. Adding banana makes it smell great and adds the proteins you need, also subbing olive oil for avocado works and adds even more nutrients back into your hair, thats a bit more pricey tho.

      Delete
  45. Is it good for dyed hair? Will it affect the color?

    ReplyDelete
  46. I might try this. I permed my hair a couple months ago, so its very dry. And are you sure this doesnt grow out your hair? Other websites say that the protein in the egg promotes hair growth. And it makes it healthy too. If this isnt true, could you suggest any treatments that will make my hair longer?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. The protein in your hair will probably help it grow. If you're trying to grow your hair, brush it with your head upside down and massage your scalp in the shower. Don't brush your hair or go to bed while your hair is wet.

  47. hey! thank you for your article!
what about using this just before swimming at the beach? can't wait to try it but don't wanna take the risk to damage it with the sea water! thank you!!

  48. You can substitute raw egg yolk with an egg yolk oil readily available as OLEOVA (www.oleova.com) as it is not smelly and messy.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Thank you for this. I've been using egg for a face mask for a few years, but I just discovered this on pinterest, and I'm in love. It made my hair softer than soft.

    ReplyDelete
  50. For those of you who have fine & oily hair like I do, I would suggest using unrefined virgin coconut oil (preferably organic) instead of the olive oil. It's lighter and absorbs into the hair shaft more effectively! <3

  51. this is my first time doing this and nit has done wonders on my hair i love it

    ReplyDelete
  52. I mixed 1 tea spoon of olive oil, egg white, 1 table spoon honey. I applied this to uncleaned hair and I lost hair while I was applying to it and massaging. Can u tell the reason?

  54. Woah! I'm really loving the template/theme of this site.
It's simple, yet effective. A lot of times it's very hard to get that
"perfect balance" between usability and visual appearance.
I must say you've done a very good job with this. Also, the blog
loads very quick for me on Chrome. Outstanding Blog!

  58. Hi! I just highlighted my hair a few days ago (which sort of turned out bad :/ but it was my first time so..) so I was wondering if this DIY hair mask is also fine to use on highlighted hair. Is it?

    ReplyDelete
  59. I have pretty curly hair that I color and highlight. I normally use hot coconut oil treatments, but I tried this combo last night. This morning when my hair dried my curls were softer and more defined! Will be using this weekly, thanks!
